Tribunal orders substituted service against Godwin Obaseki

Edo state governor-elect Godwin Obaseki An Edo state election petitions tribunal sitting in Benin, Edo state has ordered a substituted service against the state’s governor-elect Godwin Obaseki. The tribunal granted the order to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Young Democratic Party following a motion exparte filed by counsels to Osagie Ize-Iyamu and the YDP. The tribunal in its order said judicial processes would begin once the service is pasted on the walls or gate of the Edo state chapter’s All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat.

The court also ordered that the service be pasted on the walls of the residence of the Edo state governor-elect. Counsel to Ize-Iyamu and the PDP Kingsley Obamogie said the motion was filed in pursuant of the first schedule paragraph 47 of the Electoral Act as amended. However, counsel informed the court that the Edo APC secretariat along the Benin airport road has been shut down since October 20. Obamogie said the part shut its secretariat to frustrate every attempt by the plaintiff to serve them.

He prayed the court to grant the motion because the plaintiff would find it difficult to serve Obaseki.

But counsel to the YDP and its client Nurudeen Inwanfero in another motion sought the leave of the court to serve the APC and Obaseki by substituted means. Obaseki won the Edo state gubernatorial election on a landslide victory against the flag bearer of the PDP Osagie Ize-Iyamu. Meanwhile, the Ondo state gubernatorial election will take place on Saturday, November 26.
