Fresh reports have it that Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo is facing a two-year jail term having been fingered in a bribery scandal while he was playing in Spain with Granada. According to a report on Spanish publication, Marca, the provincial district attorney’s office of Granada has requested a two-year prison term and a fine of 3,000 Euros for Ighalo, his ex-Granada teammate, Diego Buonanotte, and 93 others for allegedly bribing their way to pass a driving test.
It was alleged that in 2012 and 2013 someone was hired to write driving test exams for Ighalo and the other accused. After the test was written, the errors made on the sheet were deleted. Investigation further revealed that three syndicates of ĂŤllora (Granada), MengĂbar (JaĂ©n) and Ciudad Real who moved to Granada allegedly recruited students to help write exams for clients who wanted to pass the driving license exams, and were charged between 1,500 and 2,500 Euros.
The prosecutor has also found Ighalo culpable of the crime of falsifying an official document. Ighalo may be dragged to appear in court to testify in Granada if an open trial is to be held. But in a swift response, Ighalo has described as false reports that he risks two years behind bars for bribery issues during his playing days with Spanish outfit, Granada. Speaking to FCNaija.com on Wednesday, October 26, Ighalo said he would not make any comments on the weighty allegations unless he gets a green light from his lawyer who has since swung into action on the matter. “Please I don’t want to make any comment on this till my lawyer tells me to do so” Ighalo exclusively told fcnaija.com from his base in England. “No truth about it , I don’t want to comment ” the Watford striker said.
In his first season of top flight football with Watford, Ighalo won the best Barclays player of the month in December. He finished the season with 15 league goals and currently has two goals this season.
