ONDO ELECTION TO HOLD AS SCHEDULED INEC ASSURES

Mahmood Yakoob, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has excluded the possibility of postponing Saturday’s Ondo governorship election.
At a meeting in Akure on Tuesday, Mr Yakoob has stressed that situation in Ondo didn't meet the conditions of the Electoral Act that will oblige to postpone an election.

He also reiterated that the comission is committed to ensure a successful and transparent election: "We have taken steps to ensure that the Ondo election is held as scheduled. INEC has no plan to postpone the election this weekend."

The chairman said that the INEC officials will follow the provisions of the constitution and the Electoral Act while administering the election.

Meanwhile, disputes within PDP members concerning their candidate would be resolved in accordance with the decisions of the сourt.

Earlier, Jimoh Ibrahim was ordered by the court to replace Eyitayo Jegede as the party's candidate in the eletion.

Mr Yakoob added: "We have warned our officers to be abide by the law. They have also sworn to an oath of neutrality.

This INEC will never be compromised. Only Ondo people will determine who becomes the next governor of this state."

Recall that PDP was among 16 other parties that had called for the postponement of the election in view of the litigation on who is the rightful candidate of the party.

Meanwhile,  about 1,280,580 cards had been collected out of a total of 1, 659,186 and 378,656 permanent voter cards are yet to be collected by registered voters in the state.
