A Federal High Court judge, Justice Mohammed Idris has refused a request to restrain another judge from taking further step on the account of Patience Jonathan.
The former first lady’s bank account containing N15.5 million was frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on alleged act of corruption.
Guardian reports that Mr Ifedayo Adedipe who is the counsel to the former first lady filed an order to restrain Justice Babs Kuewumi from taking further steps on the frozen sum but the EFCC countered asking the court to dismiss the application.
Mr Rotimi Oyedepo who is the anti-graft agency’s counsel said there was already an order of court convicting four defendants for warehousing proceeds of crime.
The judge ordered accelerated hearing of the case and said that he could not make any order that will be prejudicial to the outcome of the main suit.
Jonathan wants the judge to order the discharge of the freezing order and also stop the EFCC from further tampering with the account.
Meanwhile, the Federal High Court pronounced a guilty verdict on four companies used Jonathan,
Waripamo Dudafa who is the former personal assistant to former president, Goodluck Jonathan allegedly used the companies to launder the money on behalf of the former first lady.
