Sahara Reporters broke the news in a flash saying simply: “AD candidate Olusola Oke, the governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy has been arrested in Okitipupa.”
Oke was of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from where he decamped to the AD in anger over the process that led to the emergence of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as the party’s flagbearer in the November 26 election.
He was given a waiver on Thursday, November 17 by the AD to contest as its candidate and was primed by his supporters as the man to take the day.
His alleged arrest comes moments after the Court of Appeal stayed its ruling on the case against the candidature of Jimoh Ibrahim as the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the election.
The appeal was filed by Eyitayo Jegede, who is reportedly supported by Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
The reason for the arrest of Oke is not clear, but there was a report on Thursday of a group claiming that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state was spending N10 billion to sponsor Oke and that money came through Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun and Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti even though the latter is a member of the PDP.
The group which supports Akeredolu, warned Ambode to stay away from the election in Ondo state while claiming that there was an agreement between Oke and those sponsoring him on how to share portfolios once he wins.
