Tyrion Lannister is a big fan favourite for his wit and wisdom on Game Of Thrones

And as the final season draws close, fans of Tyion Lannister — played to perfection by Peter Dinklage — are reminiscing about the wit and wisdom of the show’s small-but-mighty man.

When fans last saw him, Tyrion was working a supporting role to Daeneyrs, as the Queen’s hand, but many would argue it was when he roamed as the rogue Lannister brother in King’s Landing that he was at his most potent — using his intellect to bring down to size his dysfunctional and power-crazed siblings.

Here’s the best of what he’s said over seven seasons — life lessons from our favourite Lannister:

ON WORDS

“My mind is my weapon. My brother has his sword, King Robert has his warhammer, and I have my mind … and a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone if it is to keep its edge. Sleep is good. Books are better.”

ON DRINKING

“That’s what I do. I drink and I know things.”

ON POLITICS

“Some allies are more dangerous than enemies. You can buy a man with gold, but only blood and steel will keep him true.”

ON HUMANITY

“The gods are blind. And men see only what they wish. Death is so terribly final, while life is full of possibilities. Every fool loves to hear that he’s important.”

ON WAR

“Gold has its uses, but wars are won with iron. Courage and folly are cousins, or so I’ve heard.”

ON LYING

“The best lies are seasoned with a bit of truth.”

ON EGO

“It’s hard to put a leash on a dog once you’ve put a crown on its head.”

ON SELF-ACCEPTANCE

“Never forget what you are, the rest of the world will not. Wear it like armour and it can never be used to hurt you.”

ON VIOLENCE

“I’m not particularly good at violence but I’m good at convincing others to do violence for me.”

ON LIFE GOALS

“I want to stand on top of the wall and piss off edge of the world.”

ON DEATH

“Death is so final, whereas life, ah, life is full of possibilities.”

ON HIS LEGACY

“Drinking and lust. No man can match me in these things. I am the god of tits and wine … I shall build a shrine to myself at the next brothel I visit.”
